Clueless Movie Messy Room

Because you want to go shopping, but your wardrobe can’t take it anymore. We love spring cleaning, and so could you with these five easy steps.

We’re dying to buy all the things on our spring wish lists, but given the state of our closets, we might need to do something else first. So put on a brave face, pour yourself a glass of wine (really!), and have boxes ready—these no-nonsense rules will all but guarantee that you’ll have plenty of room to bring in everything you have been dying to buy. Clear out the old, bring in the new!

See our five golden rules to cleaning out your cupboards for Spring.

1. Make a killer playlist

Music is key to a good and productive spring cleaning session. To make cleaning up your cupboards a little more enjoyable, we’ve put together a playlist that will positively put you in a productive mood.

  • “Roses,” The Chainsmokers, ROZES
  • “Lush Life,” Zara Larsson
  • “Uptown Girl” Billy Joel
  • “Sorry,” Justin Bieber
  • “Kings and Queens,” Brooke Fraser
  • “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
  • “If It Makes You Happy,” Sheryl Crow
  • “Here Comes the Sun,” The Beatles
  • “Hey Ya,” OutKast

2. Toss it all

Think as this as a cleanse, without the juicing part. Although this will require a large space on your floor and may seem to make your room even messier than when you started but it is a necessity, trust us. Get all your dirty laundry out on the floor, so to speak.  It’s quite rare to be able to see all that you own just lying there on the floor right right in front of you. More than you thought? Just know that you will have the thought “what was I thinking?” or “I must have been drunk when I bought that!”. Don’t worry, we second guessed our style sense during this process too.

3. Prioritize

Once you have the subjects laid out, it will be much easier to sort through everything. The best way to proceed: Divide and conquer. Don’t just throw things out. Create three boxes – toss, donate and keep. This simple trick will help you in deciding which item to keep or throw out. It’s also easier to let something go when you know someone else in need is going to get it, right? Click here for some great charities to donate your own things too.  Remember the ‘one-year rule’: if it’s been a year and it still has the tag on it or if you can’t think of

Remember the ‘one-year rule’: if it’s been a year and it still has the tag on it or if you can’t think of at least three ways to style it, it’s time to let go. If you haven’t worn it in a year, what makes you think you’re going to wear it now? Don’t hoard items under false pretenses – it’s not going to happen.

4. Bring a friend

The more the merrier really. It is always wise to get a second, third or even a fourth opinion from  trusted friends, and a fresh new pair of eyes. Of course, this makes the whole spring cleaning process that much more fun, turn up the music and pour yourselves a glass of wine – we suggest a glass of rosé to reflect the spring season. Help out your friend spring clean her closet too, and  you two could always swap some clothes – basically like going on a shopping spree but in the comfort of your own home. This is really the most fun part of this whole process.

5. Organize

The last step to that perfectly sorted out wardrobe; organizing and re-packing your closet. It is important to return everything to your cupboard in a neat and well-planned, organized way as to avoid the situation you just found yourself in. As they say, a de-cluttered cupboard makes for a de-cluttered mind.

Our favourite place to buy some storage containers to make our lives a little bit easier is Mambo’s – you can buy everything from storage containers to cleaning accessories.
